As an organization proudly based in Canada and run by Canadians, we want to make sure that we’re contributing to gender equality in education both at home and abroad. There is a significant gap between the enrolment of Indigenous and non-Indigenous women at Canadian universities. There are many historical social, economic and political reasons for this, including barriers to funding. To do our part in contributing to reconciliation, we’ve created a scholarship for Indigenous women to pursue an undergraduate education at any university across Canada. This scholarship will cover up to $5000 of tuition fees per year for students beginning their studies at any accredited university in Canada.

Write a short essay to tell us about yourself. What interests you? What are you passionate about? How are you involved in your local community? Please limit your answer to 500-1000 words.
If you are on a gap year, please make sure that you include your motivations for taking a gap year, what you plan on doing and/or what you have done so far.
Proof of your First Nations and/or Inuit and/or Métis status. You do not need to do this immediately if you don’t have the right documents to hand. However, if you are accepted to be a scholar, you will need to submit valid documentation in order to receive funding.
Please make sure to have all of your documents and application material ready before you begin your application — once you begin, you won’t be able to exit and continue later.
Although we’re certain that we’ll read many excellent applications from exceptional applicants, please know that we simply do not have the resources to offer funding to everyone who deserves it. A rejected application does not reflect a lack of talent, merit or worth. We plan to increase the capacity of this scholarship on a yearly basis and you are more than welcome to re-apply next year if you remain eligible.
In reading your essay, we will be looking for authenticity, passion for your work and a candid expression of your personality. We suggest that you draft your essay before beginning your application.
Applications are open until Friday, 4 August 2023 before midnight local time. We will do our best to respond to your application within 2 weeks of the deadline. We may respond to your application before the deadline, so we encourage you to submit it as early as possible.
