We're extending the deadline for the Mojisola Rufai and Victoria Ademidun Scholarship and the Olumide and Aramide Ademidun Scholarship to February 21, 2021 and changing the eligbility criteria for the Mojisola Rufai and Victoria Ademidun scholarship.

We decided to make this blog post because we want to be transparent with you since the scholarship was originally set to be due in December 31st, 2020, we've already extended the deadline twice, and this will be the third time we're extending it.

I know this can feel very annoying, especially for the people that submitted as early as November or December 2020. I'm sorry for all the extensions but I hope you can understand why we're doing this.

We're extending the deadline for 2 reasons:

  1. We just launched Atila Points. One of the benefits of Atila Points is that if someone you refer to Atila wins a scholarship, you each get an additional $50. Since we're launching it this week, and both of these scholarships are eligible for the referral bonus we wanted to give people at least a week to refer their friends for the existing scholarships that were created earlier. Otherwise these two scholarships would have been due on the same day we launched Atila Points.

  2. We are changing the eligbility criteria for the Mojisola and Victoria scholarship. The original eligbility criteria was that the student had to be from a low-income family. We decided not to use this criteria anymore for 2 reasons:
    1. We would have to ask students for their family tax returns to get income verification, which we don't want to do.
    2. Most importantly, some students may not meet the low-income cutoff but they might still have faced opportunities that they wanted to pursue but they couldn't  because their family couldn't afford it.
So now, the scholarship is open to any student that has a story of an opportunity that you wanted to take but couldn't because you and your family couldn't afford it.

If you've already submitted an application for the Mojisola scholarship, your application will be evaluated based on your answer to the question at the time of submission so you don't have to resubmit. But if want to make changes to your application based on the new questions please let me know (my email is at the bottom of this message).

We're constantly learning and trying to do things better so feel free to let us know what you think about this, we're always trying to improve Atila for you.

We created a dedicated reddit post for these two scholarships on the  r/Atila subreddit, if you ask a question there you will get a reply very soon. I recommend leaving a comment on Reddit because often people have the same questions so if one person asks a question and someone answers, you're also helping all the other people see the answer at the same time.

You can also send me an email tomiwa (at) atila [dot] ca. I read and reply to every email.
