Waterloo has more software engineers at Google than 14 of the other schools combined (excluding Toronto and UBC) (39% of software engineers come from Waterloo in total)

Waterloo has 35% of all software engineers in tech and if you exclude (UBC, Toronto, McGill) they have 56%.

Waterloo has more software engineers working at Facebook, Google, Amazon, Apple, Microsoft than the following 14

schools combined:  Alberta, Queen’s, Western, McMaster, Carleton, Calgary, Ryerson, York, Ottawa, Laurier, Guelph, Montreal, McGill and Simon Fraser

Waterloo has more software engineers at Facebook than Stanford (302 to 275)

Waterloo has more software engineers at Apple than Toronto, UBC and McGill combined (119 to 101)

A strong advantage of Waterloo’s co-op program is that it has three streams of co-op (Fall, Winter, and Summer) while most other schools, including many American schools only have summer internships/co-ops.

This off-peak season internships gives a huge advantage to Waterloo students because they barely have to compete with anyone for fall and winter semester internships.

This might sound like we’re hyping Waterloo, but bear in mind that both the author and editor of this Ebook attend Western University, so we’re not biased towards Waterloo.

(Full disclosure: some of our software developers attend Waterloo, but they didn’t have any input on this section)

More importantly, Waterloo has built an amazing reputation for itself. Not just in Canada, but internationally, and at Atila, we believe in giving credit where credit is due.
