The FSCNY and MoneyGram International are happy to announce that the 2018 Scholarship Application is now available. Please review carefully the application for eligibility requirements. Applicants must be seniors attending public high schools in New York City’s five boroughs or the surrounding New York counties. Each year, FSCNY awards cash grants to outstanding high school seniors from public schools in NYC’s five boroughs and the surrounding counties. Through the Scholarship Program, FSCNY and MoneyGram International provide educational opportunities for young people - many of whom return to their communities and contribute to improving the quality of life for all New Yorkers. In 2017, seven students from across New York City’s five boroughs received over $35,000 in scholarship money and prizes. Students are selected based on academic achievement and leadership skills they demonstrate at school and in the community. Since the Program’s inception in 1996, $788,000 in scholarships have been awarded, helping 324 deserving students attend Ivy League and other top-tier universities and colleges. Eligibility/Criteria: Applicants will be considered based on the following criteria: · Academic achievement; · Demonstrated leadership in their school; and · Demonstrated involvement in their community, contributing at least 50 valuable hours of volunteer service each year of high school. An essay of the following topic must be attached to the application: In 250 words or less students should explain their most rewarding experience through their community service involvement. INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL BE DISQUALIFIED The Awards: Several scholarships, including the William Siegel Scholarship and Gene Schott Scholarship Awards, will be issued to selected recipients consisting of a one- time cash award to be applied towards the cost of their freshman year of study at an accredited two or four-year college or university.
