TO QUALIFY, THE APPLICANT:

  1. Must be encountering financial barriers which impede the applicant’s study or practice of music. 

     
  2. Must be between 16 and 24 years of age in the calendar year of application.

     
  3. Must currently play a musical instrument; must be able to demonstrate musical talent and ability, with the stated interest of furthering their study or practice in the field of traditional or folk music.

     
  4. Must submit his/her application no later than January 15th. (Applications post-marked or emailed after this date may be considered for the following year.)

 

APPLICATION CHECK-LIST

In order for your application to be considered, we must receive the following three items:

  • A completed Application Form (from you)
  • A video or audio recording of you performing a sample of your music (from you)
  • A Letter of Reference (from your Referrer)

Q:    WHO is this Bursary intended to support?  
A:    It is intended to support youth from the GTA who are interested in, but who face financial barriers to, furthering their study or practice in the field of traditional or folk music. In more detail:

  1. “Facing financial barriers”:  The Shine Music Bursary is intended especially to support young people who face financial challenges impeding their ability to pursue their musical aspirations.  To be considered for this bursary, the applicant must adequately demonstrate the nature of his/her challenges. 

     
  2. “Youth”:  The applicant must be 16 to 24 years of age in the calendar year of application.
