ELIGIBILITY

The Foundation will only fund young artists who are pursuing their studies or are in the early or developmental stage of their career, are working in a representational style of painting, drawing, sculpture or printmaking, and demonstrate the determination and talent to pursue a lifetime career in their art practice.

The Foundation does not provide funding for the pursuit of abstract or non-objective art.

Style & Discipline

Applicants must work within a representational style of painting, drawing, sculpture or printmaking. No other artistic activities or disciplines are funded.

The following, in particular, are not within the mandate of the Foundation and are not eligible for a grant: illustration; graphic design; photography; animation; video art; film; digital art; crafts; decorative arts; any work that uses a photograph or digital image as the principal medium or that is produced using computer software or graphics; and any work or activity that falls primarily into any of the foregoing categories.

Career Stage

Applicants must be in the early stage of their career, either as a student or as an emerging artist in the process of launching their career. Grants are not intended as work or project grants for more experienced or mature artists.

Nationality

The Foundation has no geographic, citizenship or residency requirements; its grants are available to eligible applicants from around the world.

Age

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age to be eligible to apply and may not be older than 41 years of age at the time of submitting their application for a first grant.

Candidates who have previously received a grant may apply for a further grant after the age of 41,

How do I apply for the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation grant?

You must complete the online application form and upload all the required materials and documentation. Please carefully review the “How to Apply” section of the website, as well as the instructions provided within the application site.

How many grants does the Foundation give each year?

The Foundation does not give a set number of grants per year; it will give grants for as many worthy applications as it receives, within its financial capacity.

Is there a deadline for applying?

No, there is no deadline for filing an application. The Foundation reviews application on an ongoing basis and issues grants four to six times throughout the year, on average.

How long will the application review process take?

Applicants usually receive a response within three to four months, however, the review process can take up to six months from the time that we acknowledge receipt of a complete and eligible application. We do not “rush” applications, no matter what the circumstances. Therefore, we ask that applicants submit their application at least six months in advance of the date that they will be starting their project and/or requiring funds.

How will the Foundation contact me? How will I know if I am awarded a grant? How will I be notified if my application is rejected?

All correspondence regarding the status of your application is sent by email. Applicants are required to keep their email address up to date to remain eligible and have their application considered.

Please do not contact the Foundation regarding the status of your application unless it has been more than six months since we confirmed receipt of your application.

Will you reject my application if it is not properly completed?

The Foundation reserves the right to reject applications for being incomplete or not properly submitted. However, if the omission or mistake in your application is, by the Foundation’s assessment, a minor issue, we will notify you by email and request the missing information or document. We will not process or consider your application until we have received all information and documents. If you do not acknowledge our request or provide the missing item within a reasonable period of time, your application will automatically be rejected.
